How to Remove Mold from Wood

One of the most common forms of mold is mildew that generally grows in warm and damp places including basements, laundry, room, and shady porches. If you are not sure about the presence of mold, dab the stain with the cotton swab dipped in the household chlorine bleach. If the stain disappears after a few minutes then it is mildew but if not disappears, it is probably just dirt. To clean the mold off wood, you should wear a mask, long-sleeved shirt, and long pants for protecting yourself. Important supplies you need include dishwashing detergent, chlorine bleach, water, sandpaper, and wood stain.

First, put the protective cloth and vacuum the mold from the wood surface. A vacuum with a HEPA filter is the best asset for capturing as many mold spores as possible. After removing all visible mold, you must remove the vacuum bag outside and seal the content in the plastic bag before tossing in the garbage bin.

If the mold has grown in an interior door or a sealed wood finishing like floor, then you need to wash down by using liquid dish washing detergent and water solution. Mix one tablespoon of detergent to one quart of water. Utilize a soft-bristled brush to scrub down the surface. Try not to saturate the wood, use a sponge to remove excess water as you clean. Spritz with distilled white vinegar to kill the spores and allow it to remain for at least one hour.

If there is no stain remaining, then clean the surface by using a soft cloth. In case of tough mold stain, you can use the chlorine bleach by mixing a solution of one tablespoon dish washing detergent, 1/2 cup chlorine bleach and one cup of water. Apply it on the surface and let it air-dry. Finish by buffing with a soft cloth. It is very important to hire an Environmental consultant to make sure that your home is free from mold.
